About Us

Exceptional breeding with the advantage of being raised at elevation is the idea behind Altitude Arabians. Endurance horses have been our passion over the years and several of our most successful horses were flat track horses transitioned to their second careers. After many years participating in the sport of endurance many factors pulled us into the sport flat track Arabian racing. The search for quality racing stock quickly revealed a shrinking number of horses so we decided to breed our own.

Our goal is to raise horses at elevation, race them on the flat track and then transition them to the sport of endurance for long careers. We feel that focused hoof care, movement, large pasture turnout and attention to nutrition are paramount in the early years. Great care, the correct environment and focused breeding lead to exceptional horses.

Garrett and Lisa Ford own Altitude Arabians. Long time endurance riders with multiple top ten 100 Mile Tevis Cup completions, Lisa and Garrett enjoy riding their talented horses in the high mountains surrounding their Durango property. Time with horses in the beautiful San Juan Mountains is the why behind Altitude Arabians and the Ford’s love of horses.

We hope you enjoy our horses the scenry of the beautiful San Juan Mountains.

About Our Manager

Meghan Salisbury manages Altitude Arabians and is the glue that holds everything together.

“I’m from a small town in northern Minnesota. I have been at Altitude Arabians since the summer of 2016. I grew up competing in barrel racing and pole bending and have always enjoyed trail riding. I started riding dressage after high school and fell in love with the sport, which I continue to practice with my two horses. I’ve also done quite a bit of outfitting, packing hunters into the West Elk mountains of Colorado and packing supplies up to chalets in Glacier National Park. Since I have been employed with Garrett and Lisa, I have competed in two endurance races and plan to compete more seriously now that I have my own Arabian.

Altitude Arabians is a great place to work. Working at a breeding farm had always been a dream of mine, and it is definitely where I belong. I love being there when the foals are born, watching them grow up and seeing their personalities change and finally getting to watch them excel on the racetrack!”
